North West to launch provincial Arrive Alive Festive Season Road Safety Campaign outside Brits

North West Road Traffic Management authorities are to launch a provincial plan to reduce road accidents and fatalities during the festive season. The zero tolerance law enforcement operation is to be unveiled by Acting MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Ms Mosetsanagape Mokomele-Mothibi at a media briefing to be held at 8h00 on Tuesday 29 November 2011 at the Bapong Traffic Control Centre on the Bakwena Platinum N4 outside Brits.

The annual campaign is aimed at intensifying traffic law enforcement operations and increasing visibility of law enforcement in an effort to reduce road accidents and fatalities across on all major roads in the province.

The onslaught against lawlessness on public roads is expected to be intensified towards, during and after the festive season. It is in support of the National Rolling Enforcement Plan and the Decade of Action for Road Safety aimed at reducing road accidents by half.

The launch is sponsored and supported by Lonmin, Netcare911, South African National Road Agency Limited (SANRAL), Bakwena Toll, South African Police Service and municipalities within the jurisdiction of Bojanala Platinum District Municipality.

Part of the events of the launch include simulated airlifting of a road accident victim by Netcare 911, a joint parade by law enforcement officers and a multi-purpose road block to be held at an undisclosed location.
