North West Human Settlements to host emerging contractors conference

As part of creating and sustaining an enabling environment for emerging contractors, the North West Department of Human Settlements will be hosting a Provincial Emerging Contractors’ Conference this week.

This conference, which will be held in Klerksdorp, will among other things seek to emerge with a common understanding of what constitutes an “emerging contractor”. Emerging contractors play a significant role in the housing delivery processes and they are regarded as the main employment providers for local semi-skilled and unskilled labours.

The primary beneficiaries of this initiative will be local emerging contractors. Suppliers from historically disadvantaged communities will be assisted through capacity building programmes. This will facilitate their full participation in the construction industry.

MEC Desbo Mohono is expected to address the conference.

This provincial conference will be a build-up to the national conference which will be held in the near future. This follows a resolution taken during a meeting between the Minister of Human Settlements and all provincial MECs (MinMec) which was held late last year in Sun City.

Members of the media are therefore invited to be part of this significant event which will be held as follows:
