The North West Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison is to host a stakeholder’s pre-crime summit and final planning meeting in Bojanala Platinum District on Tuesday, 31 May 2011 at Glen Ross Lodge in Rustenburg.
The objective of the session is to consider presentation papers and finalise preparations towards the District summit aimed at integrating strategies and developing the Bojanala District Prevention Crime Programme of Action in order to reduce crime.
MEC Desbo Mohono says that the district summit to be held in the prioritised district due to its high crime levels in the province is targeted at strengthening the four pillars of the National Crime Prevention Strategy which are:
- Crime prevention through effective criminal justice process;
- Crime prevention through public values and education
- Crime prevention through environmental design, and
- Prevention of trans-national crimes
According to Mohono, the summit is intended to propose methods of participation in crime prevention by organs of civil society/community-based structures; that include partnerships between government, business, funding organisations, non-government organisations, community based organisations and faith based organisations.
The two-days summit planned to be held on 30 June - 1 July 2011 is also take into cognisance existing strategies and government priorities that include establishment and coordination of Community Safety Forums, Anti-Stock Theft Forum/s, Street Committees, Community Policing Forums, etc.
