The North West Department of Health and Social Development will embark on measles and polio mass immunisation campaign from April to May 2010.
Measles immunisation targeting all children till five years will take place from 12 to 23 April, while polio immunisation will commence on 24 and end on 28 May. The latter will target children from six months to fifteen years.
Immunisation will also include Vitamin A and Deworming as a means of providing all childhood with preventive interventions. The mass immunisation campaign will also take place simultaneously with the H1N1 vaccination campaign for frontline health care workers, HIV positive children under the age of 15 years on antiretroviral (ARVs), pregnant women and patients with lung and heart diseases.
MEC Rebecca Kasienyane has urged parents to take their children for immunisation at their nearest health facilities. The province aims to reach more than 95 percent of all children up to five years for measles and 90 percent aged between six months and 15 years old for polio.
