In an effort to mobilise communities for an onslaught against crime ahead and beyond the Football World Cup, the North West Community Police Board will hold a two days strategic planning retreat at the Rustenburg Kloof Conference Centre as from tomorrow, Thursday, 8 April 2010.
The objective of the retreat is to develop a five year strategic plan for the board, strengthen crime prevention measures and the partnership between the police and community policing forums (CPFs) towards the realisation of an effective and accountable and democratic policing.
As part of the programme for the retreat, presentations will also be made on the 2010/11 draft annual performance plan, community mobilisation towards FIFA World Cup 2010 and beyond, good governance and financial management by the provincial Department of Public Safety, South African Police Service (SAPS) and provincial internal audit respectively.
Delegates to attend the retreat include SAPS management, cluster community policing board chairpersons and SAPS cluster commanders, Independent Complaints Directorate, North West Business Against Crime, members of mayoral committees responsible for public safety at district municipalities and senior management from the Department of Public Safety.
Provincial MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa’s address to be delivered at the retreat on Friday at 10h00 will highlight among others visible shift from reactive to more proactive crime prevention, shared vision, sustainable initiatives, innovative ways of preventing social crimes, effective community mobilisation and implementation of the rural safety strategy.
The Community Police Board is an official board that works with the police to promote public safety and community policing. The North West community police the board is chaired by Mr Leonard Brown and consists of consists eight members: Chairperson and deputy, secretary and deputy; treasurer and three additional members.
