The national Department of Transport will receive the completed prototypes of non-motorised modes of transport from the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) at an event to be held in Johannesburg tomorrow.
This followed a meeting of designers from South Africa and 16 other international countries which also included local communities. A number of innovative non-motorised transport prototype designs will be on exhibition during the official hand over event.
These will include:
* refurbished donkey carts
* bicycles
* load bearing tricycles
* single and double axle donkey carts
* wheeled platform trolley.
These innovations are intended to benefit local and in particular, rural based communities in line with the government's plan to address rural transportation and reduce poverty.
