A new regional office of the Public Protector is to open its doors to the community of Phuthaditjhaba and surrounding areas in the Free State. Public Protector Advocate Thuli Madonsela and Speaker of the provincial legislature Khotso Sesele will officially open the premises and address community members on Friday, 30 April 2010.
The move to open an office in the area is in line with the constitutional requirement to be accessible to all persons and communities. Accessibility to communities is also one of the Public Protector's key priorities as articulated in the institution's strategic plan that was recently approved by the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development.
The programme will start with the unveiling of the plaque and the tour of the office at Shop No 1, Naledi Mall, Mampoi Street in Phuthaditjhaba at 10h00. The entourage will then precede to Thabo Mofutsanyane district municipality offices (old Parliament building), where the Public Protector will deliver her Freedom Day message to the community.
