A new multimillion library to benefit the community

Yet more Gauteng residents are benefitting from government's investment in infrastructure development which is aimed at bringing services closer to the people.

This is as the Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Lebogang Maile together with the Executive Mayor for Westonaria Local Municipality Nonkoliso Tundzi mark celebrations of Library Week with the official opening of the R7 million state of the art Library in Simunye, South of Johannesburg on 16 March.

The South African library week is on from 17 to 24 March. The impressive facility will see communities within the area having access to over 4 500 books and a free computer service among others. "This library will and should be an important treasure for students, researchers, and the residents of Simunye as they seek to improve their lives through education. It (library) should be a new heart of the community to give it new strength and hope for a brighter future.

We want to see the facility contributing towards improving the passing rate and towards people getting access to information about job opportunities", says MEC Maile whose department is responsible for Library services in the province.

According to the Mayor the community should take advantage of the facility for their benefit.

"We want people to use this facility and stay longer in there so that they can come out better educated not only for themselves but for their community and society at large because it is through education and hard work that we can start contributing towards making a difference in a lot of the challenges facing South Africa", says Mayor Tundzi.
