Nelson Mandela Day celebration: Emuseni old age home and Siyaphilisa Hospice

When Nelson Mandela celebrated his 91st Birthday on 18 July 2009, the day also marked the inaugural Mandela Day. On this day, members of the public are encouraged to be involved in public service by doing something good for at least 67 minutes in honour of more than 67 years that Nelson Mandela dedicated to the public service fighting for social justice.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation and 46664, in association with the other sister organisations, have called for Mandela Day to be recognised as an annual international “Day of Humanitarian Action” in celebration of Nelson Mandela’s life and legacy.

The Deputy Minister of Energy, Ms Barbara Thompson, will honour this day by doing community service at Emuseni old age home and later visit Siyaphilisa Hospice -Pietermaritzburg.

The Deputy Minister, therefore, invites members of the media to cover the activities of the day which are organised as follows.

Date: Monday, 18 July 2011
Time: 10h00 to 17h00
Venue 1: Emuseni old age home – Pietermaritzburg.
