National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) Chairperson and World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) President to brief media on the state of readiness to host the World Youth Festival

Executive Chairperson of the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) Andile Lungisa and President of the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) Tiago Vieira will brief members of the media on the state of readiness to host the 17th World Festival of Youth and Students (WFYS/ World Festival) taking place in Tshwane, Gauteng this month. The briefing will be at the NYDA Head Offices in Midrand on Thursday, 9 December 2010.

The WFYS, organised by the NYDA in partnership with the WFDY, will be hosted in South Africa for the first time from 13 to 21 December 2010 at the Tshwane Events Centre under the theme “Let’s defeat imperialism for a world of peace, solidarity and social transformation.”

At the briefing, Lungisa will give an update of what has been done thus far in preparation for the largest international youth event, expected to attract 30 000 local and international delegates, including heads of states. He will also officially unveil the World Festival daily programme including the programme for the opening ceremony to take place at the Lucas “Masterpieces” Moripe stadium in Atteridgeville on 13 December 2010.

The WFYS is a platform that brings together young people from across the globe to work together to build a world of peace, solidarity and social transformation, free of human rights abuses.
