Members of the media are invited to the National Youth Convention taking place in Kimberley from 5 to 7 August 2011. Close to 1 000 young people coming from the length and breadth of the country will this weekend gather at the Mayibuye Multipurpose Centre to discuss and make inputs into the final draft of the Integrated Youth Development Strategy to be submitted to Cabinet for approval. The event is hosted with the support of the Northern Cape Government.
This will mark the culmination of a series of consultations that have taken place in various provinces since the beginning of the year, where young people from various sectors of society including business, religious and political youth gave their inputs into how youth development can be best streamlined in the business of government, the private sector and civil society as envisioned through the development of the IYDS.
The NYDA Act number 54 of 2008 mandates the NYDA to develop an IYDS to integrate youth development issues in the mainstream of both private and public sector work and provides a coordinated approach for implementation of the programmes for sustainable livelihoods of young people.
