National School of Government hosts inaugural Masterclass on Comparative Development Models, 30 Oct

Does meritocracy matter for effective governance and national development?

This is the question that will be tackled in the National School of Government (NSG) Inaugural Masterclass on Comparative Development Models tomorrow, 30 October 2020 via the Zoom platform.

The Masterclass features two top class presenters, Dr Eric Li,  a Chinese venture capitalist and influential political scientist and  Trustee of the China Institute at Fudan University, and Professor Tshilidzi Marwala, Vice Chancellor of the University of Johannesburg and Deputy Chairperson of the Presidential 4IR Commission.

“The purpose of the Masterclass is to broaden perspectives on how societies have achieved rapid transformation by building capable developmental and ethical bureaucracies”, said the Principal of the NSG, Mr Busani Ngcaweni. He added that the session will explore concepts such as “Professionalising the Civil Service”, “From a Political to Meritocratic Public Service” and more broadly, “What Makes Developmental States Work.”
