The National School of Government (NSG) to host China-Africa Institute
The National School of Government (The NSG) will host a delegation from the ChinaAfrica Institute (CAI) on 8 June 2023 as part of further deepening partnerships and relations between the two institutions and two countries.
The highlight of the visit will be a Guest Lecture entitled Economic Recovery and Poverty Alleviation Post-COVID: From Policy to Practice being delivered by two leading experts from the China-Africa Institute, Prof Fang CAI, Chief Expert of the National Think Tank;
and Prof Guobao Wu, Director at the Centre for Poverty Studies. The lecture will be attended by government officials, academics and think-tanks as part of the commitment of South Africa and China to South-South exchanges to share lessons and experiences
towards building united and prosperous societies.
The lecture is intended to stimulate dialogue among officials towards the crafting of policies and strategies to achieve the South African Government’s Medium Term Strategic Framework priorities. One of the key priorities is job creation and economic
transformation which are central to poverty alleviation and achieving the vision of a united and prosperous South Africa. The Republic of South Africa has committed in the National Development Plan to reduce poverty and build inclusive societies by the year 2030.
The NSG uses strategic partnerships with domestic and international institutions to expand learning opportunities and enhance the quality of its education, training and development programmes.
The NSG and the China-Africa Institute enjoy cordial relationship since 2020. The relationship has provided exchanges through virtual platforms to over 600 officials comprising elected officials, executives as well as senior and middle managers. The
programmes attended have included topics such as Economic Governance, Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development, Local Governance and the Belt and Road Initiative. The lecture is part of the resumption of face-to-face people-to-people exchanges between China and South Africa after the COVID-19 disruption.
As part of the cooperation activities for this year, the NSG and CAI will also deliver two short courses for public sector officials on (i) Green Development, Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality; and (ii) Social Governance System and Governance Capacity for
