National Rural Youth Service Corps Farm Ranger certification ceremony

The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform together with the Southern African Wild Life College would like to invite members of the media to the National Rural Youth Service Corps (NARYSEC) Farm Ranger certification ceremony. The ceremony will be held on the 17 August 2012 at South African Wild Life College in Hoedspruit, Limpopo.

NARYSEC is a skills development programme within the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform and its main goal is to recruit and develop rural youth aged 18 -35 years to be paraprofessionals who will provide community service in the communities in which they reside.

The programme was launched in 2010 and in its first intake it attracted more than 8 000 rural youth from around the country. The second intake in 2012 attracted more than 5 000 youth.

Two hundred and fifteen NARYSEC participants have been enrolled at the Southern African Wild Life College to train as Farm Rangers from 10 May 2012 until 17 August 2012.

The aim of Farm Ranger training is to equip NARYSEC participants with skills such as infrastructure maintenance, fire management, conservation ethics, conservation guardianship and map reading in order to safe guard farms which are part of the Department’s Land Reform programme. The training also forms part of Comprehensive Rural Development (CRDP) job creation model aimed at creating job opportunities for rural youth.
