The National Planning Commission (NPC) from President Jacob G Zuma’s office will be visiting the Eastern Cape with its Commissioners on Wednesday, 13 July 2011. This is part of the commission’s national roadshows during this month and it follows the release of the Diagnostic Report on 9 June 2011. The report highlights critical areas that call for the country’s urgent attention to some socio-economic matters.
On the day the NPC will engage with various stakeholders in the province on the Diagnostic Report and the process leading to the development of a long term development plan of the country and the province. It will be led by its Head in the Presidency, Minister Trevor Manuel and the Commissioners include Cyril Ramaphosa. The programme for day that will run until the evening will focus on:
a. Engagement with politicians:
- the Executive Council
- all Mayors and Executive Mayors
- leadership of the Eastern Cape House of Traditional Leaders
- leadership of the Eastern Cape Legislature
b. Parallel engagement with civil servants:
- Heads of Department
- Municipal Managers
- Heads of Chapter 9 institutions
- CEOs of State Owned Enterprises
- College Principals
- Rectors of Universities
c. Engagement with civil society
- youth
- women,
- persons with disability
- students representatives
- academics
d. Labour, and
e. Business
The day will be concluded by a Public Lecture at the East London City Hall. The Diagnostic Report of the NPC and inputs received from various stakeholders will contribute towards a more effective way of implementing the Provincial Strategic Framework (PSF). It will also lay the basis for seamless service delivery process in the province.
