You are cordially invited to the launch of the National Water Treatment Project of the national Department of Public Works at Msinga Municipality Hall in Msinga on Monday, 22 August 2011. One hundred and ten young people from the province of KwaZulu-Natal will be inducted as the first water care learners.
The national Department of Public Works has a responsibility to provide waste treatment and management services on facilities not connected to municipality infrastructure. Such facilities are in prisons, border posts, police stations and military bases.
As a result of a need to strengthen the provision of a reliable service of maintaining and operating sewerage plants in these facilities, the department decided to launch a national programme to take back the responsibility from contractors and bring it in house. The programme has opened up the possibility of creating jobs as well as providing skills in the Water Care Sector of the department.
The launch at Msinga is a fulfilment of the department’s mandate of infrastructure development and job creation agenda, and the government’s commitment to poverty alleviation. It is also a follow-up on the commitment that was given by the Minister of Public Works during the Anti-Poverty campaign of the Deputy President of the country, at Msinga, on 9 April 2011. During the campaign, the department made a commitment to alleviate poverty in the community by appointing 100 unemployed youth who have been recommended to work on the Sewerage and Water Treatment Plant Programme.
Umsinga is an economically depressed area which needs all the economic opportunities that it can get. This project will go a long way in ameliorating the dire poverty situation in the area as well as provide critical skills to the successful learners.
