National Children’s Day

The first Saturday of November is the day on which South Africa celebrates National Children’s Day. Government has declared this as a day to highlight the promotion of children’s rights.

A clarion call is thus made to all members of society to realise and ensure children develop their full potential, free from hunger, disease, neglect and abuse. Children have rights and responsibilities, appropriate of their stage of development and the Department of Social Development plays a critical role in ensuring the rights of children are promoted and protected.

As part of celebrating this day MEC for Social Development Mr. Alvin Botes will be handing over educational toys to Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centres in Port Nolloth and Strydenburg.

The ECD centres who will be receiving the educational toys are Rainbow Day Centre and Twinkle Star Care Centre from Port Nolloth and Strydenburg Day Care Centre from Strydenburg

MEC Botes will also be engaging and interacting with the parents of the children attending the Early Childhood Centre on the importance of the education and the fundamental role ECD centres play in developing and preparing their children for Junior Primary School.
