Several of South Africa’s major metros and municipalities will be given additional responsibility for human settlements project development when Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale hands over certificates of accreditation in Potchefstroom, North West on Friday.
The metros have been granted what is termed “level two accreditation status”, which gives a municipality the responsibility to approve and manage housing construction programmes and ensure technical quality assurance.
The accreditation ceremony will be preceded by a hand over of 100 newly constructed Tlokwe Community Residential Units (CRU) in Ikageng.
Minister Sexwale will be joined by North West MEC for Human Settlements Public Safety & Liaison, Nono Maloyi and Executive Mayor of Tlokwe Municipality Cllr. Maphetle Maphetle.
The project is aimed at providing affordable rental housing stock of high quality to low income earning families.
