Municipal by-elections scheduled for 5 October 2011

Municipal ward by-elections will take place on Wednesday, 5 October 2011 in KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo.

The Electoral Commission (IEC) confirmed that 10 vacant wards will be contested by 30 candidates of whom one is independent and the rest represent eight  political parties. 

One by-election will take place in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN):

Ward 4 in Newcastle (Newcastle) Municipality - KZN252 will be contested by Charles Henry Benjamin Chowles of the African National Congress; Tanya June de Jager of the Democratic Alliance; and Rajendra Sookdew Jaggernath of the Inkatha Freedom Party.

The ward was previously represented by the Democratic Alliance and became vacant due to the resignation of the councillor.

Nine by-elections will take place in Limpopo:

Ward 11 in Thulamela (Thohoyandou) Municipality - LIM343 will be contested by Tinyiko Daphne Khosa of the African National Congress; and Xihangalasi Richard Maswanganyi of the Congress of the People.

The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant due to the resignation of the councillor.

Ward 12 in Thulamela (Thohoyandou) Municipality - LIM343 will be contested by Mafemani Erick Matchebela of the African National Congress; and Tsakani Lucas Mabale of the Congress of the People.

The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant due to the resignation of the councillor.

Ward 4 in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) Municipality - LIM344 will be contested by Uhone Pat Nemudzivhadi, the only independent candidate; Mapule Miriam Hlabioa of the African National Congress; and Tshinanne Dorah Makhado of the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania.

The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant due to the resignation of the councillor.

Ward 10 in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) Municipality - LIM344 will be contested by Nkhensani Grace Ndzovela of the African National Congress; Tsakani Nkhensani Shivambu of the Congress of the People.

Ward 11 in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) Municipality - LIM344 will be contested by Vhumbani Sarah Luduvhungu of the African National Congress; Ndivhuwo Duncan Mashego of the Azanian People’s Organisation; Mbulaheni Phineas Muila of the Congress of the People; and Namadzavho Tinny Rambau of the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania.

The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant due to the resignation of the councillor.

Ward 15 in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) Municipality - LIM344 will be contested by Sipho Masuka of the African National Congress; Mavhu Maria Nchauba of the Azanian People’s Organisation; and Ratshilumela Amos Makushu of the Congress of the People.

The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant due to the resignation of the councillor.

Ward 38 in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) Municipality - LIM344 will be contested by Ananeas Thambatshira Neluvhola of the African National Congress; Raulisa Ezekiel Kutama of the Congress of the People; and Mashudu Jane Mmboi of the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania.

The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant due to the resignation of the councillor.

Ward 2 in Mookgopong (Naboomspruit) Municipality - LIM364 will be contested by Sello Andries Magowa of the African National Congress; and Mabu Joseph Leso of the Congress of the People.

The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant due to the resignation of the councillor.

Ward 31 in Mogalakwena (Potgietersrus) Municipality - LIM367 will be contested by Nkuku Ezekiel Mojela of the African National Congress; Matsobane Philipus Mello of the African People’s Convention; Mohlatlego Sophia Radebe of the Azanian People’s Organisation; Tabea Margaret Kekana of the Congress of the People; Korny Quintin Dekker of the Democratic Alliance; and Mamoloko Shadrack Sejeng of the United Democratic Movement.

The ward was previously represented by the African National Congress and became vacant due to the resignation of the councillor.

Voting stations will be open from 7h00 to 21h00. A total of 57 376 voters are registered in the 10 wards and 56 voting districts where by-elections will be taking place.
