Minister Xingwana invites media to a hand-over ceremony to be held at University of Stellenbosch University on the 27 September 2010.
This Inaugural Flag was advertised to be auctioned at Bonhams, in Britain earlier this year. Investigations are afoot to find out how this Heritage item got to the auctioneers.
This Flag was flown at the Inauguration of President Nelson Mandela. It was signed by the President and Deputy Presidents Thabo Mbeki and FW de Klerk. A patriot, Mr Giuseppe Ciucci, Chairperson of Stonehage Charitable Trust, bought it and is donating the flag to government. The flag would be handed over to the Rector of Stellenbosch, Prof. Russell Botman so that it would be displayed at the University for a few years. The details of the event are:
