Movement of South African National Defence Force main equipment to the Pretoria Show Grounds

The Department of Defence will participate in the Pretoria Show from 28 August to 6 September 2009. On Tuesday, 25 August 2009 at approximately 10h00, South African National Defence Force personnel and vehicles will travel in convoy from two assembly areas in Pretoria to the Pretoria show grounds.

The first convoy will be departing from Patriot Street (next to the entrance of Pretoria Regiment), via Potgieter Street (direction north), Visagie Street (direction west) and then into Souter Street (direction west).

The convoy will comprise of a tank transporter for the Olifant Mk II Tank, Rooikat armour vehicle, ZT-3 Ratel, Mamba, Namakura, diving tank, and GV6 self propelled howitzer.

The second convoy will be departing from the shoulder of the Lavender road/R566 Brits intersection (direction south), via R566 (direction west), M1-Pretoria North (direction south) DF Malan drive (direction south) and then into Souter Street (direction west). The convoy will comprise of a Ratel 20 and a Casspir.

Souter Street will be closed between 10h00 and 11h00 to allow for the movement of the main equipment into the Pretoria Show Grounds. Traffic will be redirected by the Metro Police to Mitchell Street and President Burgers Street.

Programme managers are kindly requested to include this information in traffic bulletins on Monday, 24 and Tuesday, 25 August 2009.
