Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi 's target of getting 15 million South Africans to know their HIV status will move a step closer when close to 2 000 workers at the giant Medupi Power station in Lephalale, Limpopo undergo testing next week.
The three day testing campaign starting from 1 to 3 March 2011 is a partnership between the Department of Health, construction giant Murray and Roberts and power utility Eskom.
The HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT) campaign was launched in May last year by South Africa's President Mr Jacob Zuma. The campaign has set itself a target of testing 15 million people by June this year.
Since his appointment, Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi has placed a huge emphasis on prevention as part of responding to the HIV and AIDS challenge in our country.
On Tuesday, 1 March, the health Minister will lead the testing activities and joining him will be Eskom's Chief Executive Mr Brain Dames, Eskom board chairman Mr Mpho Makwana, Limpopo MEC for Health and Social Development Ms Dikeledi Magadzi, Murray and Roberts executives and other senior representatives from Limpopo Provincial Government.
Members of the media are invited to join the Minister of Health on Tuesday, 1 March as he will be leading the testing activities.
