Ministers Dlamini Zuma and Nkwinti to visit farmers in KwaZulu-Natal

Home Affairs Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, will on Thursday 12 May 2011, together with Minister of Rural Development and Land Affairs Gugulile Nkwinti, visit farmers in Ixopo, KwaZulu-Natal.

This comes as part of government’s efforts to interact with all South Africans in the furthest reaches of the country with a view to strengthening service delivery.

Minister Dlamini Zuma will also use the opportunity to encourage South Africans to register their babies within 30 days of birth and for all 16 year olds to apply for identity documents (IDs) as part of the country's National Population Registration Campaign.

With a view to giving expression to government’s efforts to create a better life for all, Minister Dlamini Zuma earlier today Wednesday, 11 May 2011 participated in a sod-turning ceremony for the new Eskom substation in eBomvini, Umzimkulu, KwaZulu-Natal. The station, which is expected to be built within a year, will contribute to government’s commitment to creating 5 million new jobs while electrifying the communities.

Deputy Minister Chohan to hand out identity documents (IDs) in Roodepoort

At the same time, Deputy Home Affairs Fatima Chohan will also on Thursday, 12 May 2011, interact with members of the community in Roodepoort during which she is expected to deliver IDs to those who had previously applied. This is line with the objectives of the National Population Registration Campaign to ensure each South African over the age of 16 is issued with an ID.

This will ensure that while these citizens will now be able to access government services and other opportunities including education and employment, they will be able to exercise of the most fundamental freedoms South Africans enjoy, the right to vote in Local Government Elections on 18 May 2011.
