Ministers champion employment of people with disabilities ahead of the State of the Nation Address

Minister for Women, Children and People with Disabilities, Ms Lulu Xingwana and Minister of Labour, Ms Mildred Oliphant will on Monday, 7 February visit two factories employing people with disabilities in Epping and Ndabeni industrial area in Cape Town.

The visit is part of the programme building up to the State of the Nation Address by President Jacob Zuma which is expected to focus on issues of economic transformation. The Ministers will outline efforts being made towards achieving 2% employment equity target for people with disabilities.

Exclusively employing people with various forms of disability at their shop-floor, the two factories produce furniture for more than 300 schools and they provide linen to two major hospitals in Cape Town (Tygerberg and Groote Schuur).

Directions to Factory 1 from Cape Town

Take N2 towards Cape Town International Airport, exit at Vanguard Drive and left towards Good wood. Turn left into Bofors Circle, left at the stop street into Gunners Circle. At the third street turn right into Grenville Avenue. The factory is the second building on your right. 

From Factory 1 to Factory 2 (about 3km drive)

  • Drive back and turn right into Gunners Circle
  • Take second left to stay on Gunners
  • Take first left into Viking Way (M16)
  • Take on-ramp into Jan Smuts Drive (M16)
  • Turn left at Forest Drive
  • Turn right at Avonduur
  • Take the second left into Old Mill Rd
  • Take the second right into Inyoni Street
