Today, Sunday 19 August 2012, Western Cape Minister for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Alan Winde, will embark on a journey from the centre of Cape Town to Simonstown – in a vintage coach pulled by a Class 24 steam loco.
The steam train, operated by Atlantic Rail (http://www.atlanticrail.co.za/), runs on a bi-monthly basis along its scenic route from Cape Town - through Muizenberg, False Bay, Kalk Bay, Fish Hoek and Glencairn to Simonstown.
Minister Winde will use the opportunity to highlight the importance of heritage rail tourism in the Western Cape and of South Africans embracing domestic tourism opportunities.
There will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.

Directions (Atlantic Rail is not situated at the main train station):
From N1:
- Left at the robot from the N1 into Oswald Pirow
- second robot RIGHT into Hertzog Boulevard
- fFirst Left into Civic Avenue
- left at the T junction into Old Marine Drive
- immediately after going under the bridge, on your right hand side you will see the Train Lodge
- we use the Train Lodge entrance as our entrance for the train.
From N2:
- From N2 onto Eastern Boulevard
- take the Oswald Pirow Street exit from the eastern Boulevard
- as you come to the first intersection (Robot) , you go straight over Oswald Pirow
- you are then in Hertzog Boulevard and you turn left at the very first road (also a robot) into Civic Avenue
- at the T junction you turn left into Old Marine Drive
- just ahead of you is a bridge that you go under and immediately after that on your right hand side is the Train Lodge.
- we use the Train Lodge as our entrance.
