Minister of Trade and Industry Rob Davies to lead a business delegation to Brazil

The Minister of Trade and Industry Dr Rob Davies will lead a business delegation of around 30 companies that will represent South Africa at an Investment and Trade Initiative (ITI) in Brazil, from 17 to 20 November 2010.

The ITI programme will focus on the IT, Energy, Infrastructure and Transport sectors. In addition, with South Africa handing over its role as host of the FIFA World Cup to Brazil, the programme features knowledge sharing particularly relating to reviews of the 2010 FIFA World Cup infrastructure projects, including airport infrastructure and the construction of the stadia.

According to Minister Davies, the Investment and Trade Initiative will focus on strengthening trade and economic relations between the two countries, address the trade barriers and facilitate the involvement of South African companies in the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics programme.

“2014 World Cup presents immense opportunities for SA entities to forge partnership in various infrastructure projects. South Africa having organised and staged a successful 2010 World Cup has a legacy to transfer to Brazil. It will also be a platform to showcase South African goods and services and promote South Africa as an investment destination”, said Davies

The relationship between the two countries has evolved remarkably over the past ten years. Both countries share a very strong political and economic relationship from country-country (Bi-National Commission), trilateral relations (IBSA) to regional economic development (SACU-MERCUSOR) level.
