Mineral Resources Minister Ms Susan Shabangu (MP) will deliver the keynote address at the Mpumalanga Provincial Mining Lekgotla on Thursday 1 November 2012 at the Banquet Hall in Middelburg, Mpumalanga Province.
The Lekgotla, which will unfold under the theme, “Towards Mining for sustainable development,” will also be attended by the Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Ms Edna Molewa.
Its primary purpose will be to develop better mechanisms to enhance the contribution of the mining industry to sustainable growth and development with specific emphasis on human capital development, enterprise development and infrastructure development.
Four broad key areas of focus will be discussed at the Lekgotla, namely:
- Human capital development
- Enterprise development
- Urban Renewal, and
- Sustainable development and the environment.
The expected outcomes will amongst other things entail:
- Development of an Action Plan to deliver identified projects and other related issues.
- The establishment of Institutional mechanisms to facilitate and monitor the implementation of the Action Plan.
- Signing of a pledge from all Partners with clear areas of co-operation.
