His Excellency, President of the Republic of South Africa, Mr Jacob Zuma will officiate the launch of the state owned mining company at the sod turning ceremony of its Vlakfontein Operations in Ogies, Mpumalanga on Saturday, 26 February 2011.
President Zuma will be accompanied by Mineral Resources Minister, Ms Susan Shabangu, Energy Minister, Ms Dipuo Peters and other senior government officials.
The mine will be operated by African Exploration Mining and Finance Corporation (Pty) Ltd (AE) which is a member of the Central Energy Fund (CEF) Group of Companies.
Background
African Exploration Mining and Finance Corporation (AEMFC) has been mandated to support Eskom and Petro SA by ensuring that there is a secure supply of feedstock for sustainable power generation and development of indigenous fuels (Coal to Liquids).
AEMFC’s current portfolio includes coal, lime/limestone and uranium that constitute its strategic mineral resources. However, AEMFC has started to capitalise itself through diversification to other unrelated minerals. AEMFC will make strategic equity investments and enter into joint venture partnerships.
