Minister Sonjica to brief media ahead of bilateral engagements on climate change

Ms Buyelwa Sonjica, Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, will brief the media on Tuesday, 15 September on the recent cabinet announcements around the progress report on the international climate change negotiations that are taking place under the auspices of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

These negotiations are aimed at reaching agreement on the international climate change regime beyond 2012. The next round of negotiations will take place at the 15th Conference of Parties scheduled for 15 December 2009 in Copenhagen.

The briefing by the Minister comes ahead of her departure to significant international engagements in the run up to the Copenhagen COP 15. The Major Economies Forum (MEF) on energy and climate will meet in Washington from 17 to 18 September, ahead of the UN Secretary General’s Summit in New York.

Thereafter Minister Sonjica will proceed to the UN Secretary General’s high level event on climate change from 21 to 22 September 2009.
