Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform Gugile Nkwiti to inspect The Nelson Mandela legacy bridge

The Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Mr Gugile Nkwinti, will be conducting inspections of works at the Nelson Mandela Legacy Bridge.

Two bridges, one low water bridge and the main bridge, will be built in all and would be completed next year. The bridge is built in honour of our international statesman and struggle stalwart of the ANC, Dr Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, who was the first president of a democratic South Africa from 1994 to 1999.

Members of the media are invited as follows:

Date: Tuesday, 20 December 2011
Time: 09h00
Venue: Nelson Mandela Legacy Bridge, Mvezo, OR Tambo District

The bridge is built by the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform in conjunction with the Provincial Departments of Roads and Works and Environment on the River Mbhashe in Mvezo, the birth place of Mr Mandela.

Mr Nkwinti will be accompanied during his visit by provincial cabinet ministers and high ranking officials from Pretoria. The hundred million rand project is expected to generate several spinoffs for the Eastern Cape Province in terms of tourism and job creation.

The Ministry of Rural Development and Land Reform cordially invites all community radio stations in the Eastern Cape to cover this august occasion so the people of the Eastern Cape can bear testimony as this historic development unfolds.
