The Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform to brief media on Land Reform Green Paper

The Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Mr Gugile Nkwinti, cordially invites members of Media houses to send their representatives to cover a media briefing that will be held on the 17 February 2012 at 15h30 at Birchwood Hotel, in Boksburg.

Minister Nkwinti wants to brief the media and the public on the latest developments with the Land Reform Green Paper. The media briefing will take place after a meeting of the National Reference Group (NAREG), a body comprising all the national land stakeholders who have been tasked with drafting a future land reform policy for the country.

Mr Nkwinti said he wanted that the country’s land reform policy document to be a well-thought-after product that will embrace all the views of the people of this country.

NAREG is made up of six working groups or work streams, each dealing with a particular policy proposal embodied in the Land Reform Green Paper. One of the groups is working on the proposed office of the valuer-general who will be responsible for setting norms and standards for land pricing, another is dealing with the proposed Land Management Commission which is envisaged to regulate land ownerships.

Other groups are dealing with the Land Rights Management Board, Communal Land and Community Property Associations, and the three tier land tenure system.

The aim of tomorrow’s media briefing is to update the country about the latest developments regarding land reform policy formulation by the government. The period for submissions and consultations was closed on December 31, 2011.
