The Minister in the Office of the President, Mr Collins Chabane will lead a high level business delegation from Germany and Russia when they visit the Moruleng district of the North West province on Wednesday, 6 October to explore investment opportunities among the Bakgatla-Ba-Kgafela communities.
The representatives from commerce, industry and development corporations will meet with Kgosi Nyalala M J Pilane, the leader of the Bakgatla-Ba-Kgafela and his senior economic advisors from his administration.
The visit is seen as a direct result of President Jacob Zuma's recent investment mission to Russia and his meeting with the European commission as well as the meeting he had with German chancellor, Angela Merkel during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
At these meetings, the possibilities of investment in local economic development projects were discussed.
Prior to the visit to Moruleng, the delegation will meet with senior management of Transnet and Eskom. A meeting with King Goodwill Zwelithini of the Zulu nation is also on their agenda.
"This is a great opportunity for us to inform potential foreign investors about development projects in our region," says Kgosi Pilane.
"The BBK has emerged as one of the most dynamic communities in southern Africa in recent years and we are busy with significant development projects to revitalise infrastructure and improve the quality of education, health care and basic services to our community.
"We can achieve these objectives through joint ventures and partnerships with local and international business and development agencies. The German and Russian delegation arrive at an opportune time to identify possible projects they may want to get involved with," says Kgosi Pilane.
The Bakgatla-Ba-Kgafela Traditional Administration (BBKTA) represents the interests of the community and acts in support of the leader of the community, Kgosi Pilane.
The primary objective of the BBKTA is to develop strategies and implement projects aimed at the economic and social development of the region and its people.
Education, healthcare, infrastructure, job creation and poverty alleviation have been identified as among the major priorities for the region.
