Minister Peters will address the media on the latest developments of the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP)

The Minister of Energy, Ms Dipuo Peters will address members of the media on the latest developments on the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP). The plan outlines the following critical issues which will make an impact on the electricity generation capacity in South Africa:

* The development and commercialisation of renewable energy in particular concentrated solar power
* The development of a nuclear strategy to provide low emission base load to coal fired generation from 2020
* Continued investment in the maintenance and refurbishment of the existing Eskom plant to ensure generator performance at assumed levels and continued investment on the demand side
* Continued investment in demand side management initiatives to improve energy efficiency. This includes the expected load reduction stemming from the Department of Energy’s 1 million solar water geysers target, 2009 to 2014.
