South African government host Carbon Capture and Storage Conference which will be held from 29 to 30 September 2009 at the Sandton Sun, Johannesburg, South Africa
The Minister of Energy, Ms Dipuo Peters will on Tuesday, 29 September 2009 officially open South African Carbon Capture and Storage Conference at the Sandton Sun hotel in Johannesburg at 08h30.
The objective of the conference is to raise awareness of challenges and opportunities around CCS and establish channels to transfer knowledge from international experts into South Africa. The conference also aims to raise awareness, profile the CCS in South Africa and encourage students to pursue post-graduate research in this field.
The conference will be attended by representatives from international organizations such as the CO2CRC (Australia), Department of Energy and Climate Change (UK), the Norwegian government, the British Geological Survey, the TNO Research Institute (The Netherlands), Shell, Alstom, Hatch, Schlumberger and Doosan Babcock.
The Minister will also launch newly formed South African Centre for CCS on the evening of 29 September 2009, at 18h30 at Summer Place in Hyde Park, Johannesburg. The members of the media are invited to attend the launch. The Minister is expected to deliver keynote address at the Launch. The ultimate goal of the CCS research centre is to demonstrate this technology in South Africa by means of a carbon dioxide injection experiment and ultimately a demonstration plant by 2020.
