Minister Peters launches Safe Illumination Paraffin Stove pilot project

The Minister of Energy, Ms Dipuo Peters invites the members of the media to the launch of Safe Illuminating Paraffin Stove pilot project.

The project aims to promote the use of safer illuminating paraffin appliances while addressing problems associated with harmful incidents caused by use of illuminating paraffin in low income households in South Africa.

It also aims to test the robustness and safety of the newly designed, table height paraffin stoves to minimise incidences associated with safe handling and usage of the paraffin, fuel and related appliances. The government committed itself to promoting energy access and managing energy related environmental and health impacts, as stated in the Energy White Paper of 1998.

Amongst other dignitaries invited are the Premier, MEC for Social Development, mayors and all other government structures in the Port Shepstone area.
