Minister Peters launches review of industry compliance with Liquid Fuels Charter

Members of the media are invited to attend and cover the press conference where the Minister of Energy, Ms Dipuo Peters, MP, will announce the commencement of the process to audit the performance of the liquid fuels industry with regard to the provisions of the Liquid Fuels Charter. The charter came into effect in 2000. It was the first ever industry transformation charter.

This process comes during the month of the 10th anniversary of the charter where voluntary commitments were made to transform the industry to achieve the policy objectives contained in the 1998 Energy White paper which included amongst others to “achieve sustainable presence, ownership and control by historically disadvantaged South Africans of a quarter of all facets across the value chain”.

Achieving the 25 percent target is not only a minimum empowerment target, but also one of the critical phases and milestones to be achieved by industry players involved in this sector.

The petroleum and liquid fuels industry is strategically positioned in the quest to accelerate shared economic growth and the creation of decent and sustainable jobs. The details of the media conference are as follows:
