Members of the media are invited to attend and cover the United Nations (UN) Environmental Programme (Finance Investment) Global Roundtable in Cape Town on 22 to 23 October 2009.
The Minister of Energy Ms Dipuo Peters will deliver a speech as a contributing panelist at the UN roundtable programme. In the plenary session, panelists will explore the interactions between financial services companies, other capital market actors and the broader business and industrial community in making 'sustainability' happen.
A key question for the panelists is whether investors are effectively recognising and rewarding those leading companies who have embedded sustainability in their Designated National Authority across policy and products and whether they are performing in a manner that consistently respects the people, planet and profit.
Panelists will discuss how the policy-making capital market and industrial and business communities can speed up a transition to a low carbon economy that delivers a better standard of life for communities across the planet. In this session, panelists will provide an international view with particular examples highlighted from Africa, Europe and Asia.
