Minister Pandor tables the Department of Science and Technology's Budget Vote in Parliament

The Minister of Science and Technology, Mrs Naledi Pandor, will table the Department of Science and Technology's Budget Vote at the Old Assembly Building of Parliament in Cape Town on Tuesday, 15 May 2012, at 14h00.

At 9h00 Minister Pandor, Deputy Minister Derek Hanekom and the Director-General, Dr Phil Mjwara, will brief the media regarding the department's Budget Vote at the Government Communication and Information System's Imbizo Centre, Ground floor, 120 Plein Street, Parliament.

An impressive exhibition of some of the South Africa’s best innovations, under the theme "Innovation for development and socio-economic change", will be mounted at the Iziko South African Museum.

At 11h00, Minister Pandor and Deputy Minister Hanekom will lead members of the Portfolio Committee on Science and Technology and other invited dignitaries on a walkabout at the exhibition.

At 12h00, Dr Olaf Conrad, the Programme Director of the HySA/Catalysis Competence Centre at the University of Cape Town, will make a presentation titled "Hydrogen and fuel cells: the potential for economic development", also at the Iziko South African Museum.

At a gala dinner, which starts at 18h00, Dr Hulda Swai, a principal researcher in biomaterials research at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, will make a presentation on the development of nano-drug-delivery systems, with an emphasis on delivering tuberculosis, malaria and HIV/Aids drugs.

Her research focus is on nanomedicine and recent developments and opportunities in Africa.
