08h30: The Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor, will officially open the South African Institute of Tribology International Conference at the University of Pretoria.
The South African Institute of Tribology (SAIT) has just completed a project sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, to consider the cost to the country in non conformance with the elements of Tribology.
Tribology, being the science of friction and wear, the potential savings are significant, considering that energy is required to overcome friction, and wear consumes machinery.
18h00: Minister Pandor will speak at the 4th International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) International Conference on Women in Physics at the Protea Hotel in Stellenbosch.
In 2005, the South African women in Physics (SAIP), through support from the Department of Science and Technology, established a working group called “Women in Physics” (WiPiSA). WiPiSA’s role is to promote the goals of IUPAP Women in Physics within the South African context.
About 300 delegates from over 70 countries are expected to attend the conference.
Media are invited.
