The Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor, will tomorrow, Monday, 12 December 2011, deliver a keynote address at the Kleinmond Housing Project handover event at Kleinmond, near Hermanus in the Western Cape Province.
The Kleinmond housing project is a low-cost housing project comprising 410 units aimed at meeting the demand for sustainable human settlements in the Western Cape. The project is situated at the base of a mountain overlooking the seaside town of Kleinmond near Hermanus. It is one of the first projects to reintroduce modular masonry in the South African low-cost housing arena.
Through the Department of Science and Technology’s funding of around R18, 5 million, the houses boasts an array of technologies.
Earlier in 2011, the Project was nominated for the South African Housing Foundation's Housing Project of the Year 2011 award for innovation and creativity in low-cost housing and received a Category 2a (under R120 000 per unit) special merit award.
