The Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor will officially open the North West University (NWU) Mafikeng Campus Science Centre on Monday, 30 August 2010 at 12h00.
Built at a tune of R1.6 million by the university, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) donated R500 000 towards buying of interactive Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) equipment for the centre.
Other dignitaries expected to attend the function are the MEC for education in North West, Rev O J Tselapedi, Mayors of Mafikeng and Ngaka Moridi District and representatives of Eskom, Transnet and Anglo-American companies.
The centre will provide access to learners, particularly those doing grades 10, 11, and 12, their educators and community members at large.
About 75 thousand learners are expected to visit the centre each year.
