Established in 1998, their objectives are to:
- acknowledge and promote excellence in the South African Research and Development (R&D) community by cross-cutting sectors, levels, gender, and race while recognising both individuals and teams
- celebrate scientific research that is professional, innovative, forward looking and relevant to both South Africa and the rest of the world
- recognise and celebrate excellence in research in order to encourage the involvement and participation of SETI organisations in research while raising awareness in the general public about local research and its relevance
- address government R&D targets and policy by involving business, drawing attention to scarce skills, profiling role models and facilitating knowledge transfer for learners and students to pursue careers in SETI.
Media are invited.
