Minister Nzimande to witness Ekurhuleni College taking a leading role in linking skills development to career path

The Minister for Higher Education and Training, Dr Blade Nzimande, will on Thursday, 30 June 2011 at 07h00 witness the signing of cooperation agreement between South African Airways Technical (SAAT) and Ekurhuleni West College (EWC) for Further Education and Training.

This cooperation agreement responds to the call made by President Jacob Zuma during his State of the Nation Address when he said Further Education and Training Colleges should be turned into primary sites for skills development and that 2011 is declared the year for job creation. It further responds to Minister Nzimande's call of aligning the Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) and FET college systems so they can talk to each other.

This strategic partnership will promote the culture of provision of qualifications by EWC FET in the aviation stream which inevitably leads to easy access to job opportunities, a model which is proven to be the best worldwide and is capable of curbing youth unemployment.

The event is scheduled as follows:
Date: 30 June 2011
Time: 07h00 – 07h55 am
Venue: SAAT offices (Airways Park, Jones Road, OR Tambo International Airport)

NB: Question and Answer session will be afforded to members of the media from 08h00 am.
