The Minister of Higher Education and Training Dr Blade Nzimande, will on Tuesday, 10 May 2011, at 09h30 meet with United States Undersecretary of State for Public Affairs and Public Diplomacy, Judith McHale to join corporate leaders panel to discuss “Building a 21st Century Workforce”.
The Minister and US Undersecretary of State will talk with corporate chieftains about the education and training needs of South African businesses. The idea for the panel arose out of a conversation between
Minister Nzimande and Undersecretary McHale met in Washington DC earlier this year, when they discussed ways that educators and local academic institutions could better prepare students to enter the workforce.
The University of South Africa (UNISA), which is hosting the event, teaches over 300 000 students across Africa through the medium of open distance learning. UNISA provides an excellent example of the opportunity that technology brings to help South Africa address its education and training challenges.
