Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Blade Nzimande will be addressing the South African Democratic Teachers' Union (SADTU) National Policy Conference at Emperors Palace this afternoon.
The conference will deliberate on issues of Education, Gender and Labour. Minister Nzimande will be talking with particular attention on issues of Transformation in Higher Education and Further Education and Training in the context of the Global Economic Crisis.
The transformation of Higher Education and Training has been high on the Minister’s agenda since he was appointed to this portfolio in 2009.
Minister Nzimande is expected to share progress that his Department has made, after the release of report of the Committee on Transformation and Social Cohesion and the Elimination of Discrimination in Public Higher Education Institutions in 2008 (which is known as the ‘Soudien Report’).
The report which highlighted the severity of racial and gender discrimination that continues to persist in all higher education institutions and the steps that need to be taken to combat such discrimination.
