Minister Nzimande to address graduation ceremony for Thabo Mbeki Development Trust for Disabled People

The Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Blade Nzimande will address the graduation ceremony of 44 people with disabilities as part of a leanership programme of the Wholesale and Retail Sector Education and Training Authority (W&RSETA) and the Thabo Mbeki Development Trust for Disabled People (TMDT).

The TMDT emerged from the previous development fund for disabled people. Its programmes centre on the promotion of skills development and employment through learnerships and poverty alleviation through income-generating schemes.

The leanership programme of the W&RSETA and TMDT, together with their training partner Aboutlearning, will for the first time see disabled people entering the wholesale and retail sector to take up jobs in fields such as sales, marketing and in call centres.

To build on the programme’s success, the TMDT and W&RSETA intends to roll out their learnerships programme to much greater numbers in all nine provinces, with the second intake already training in Gauteng.
