Minister Nyanda to launch the Zibambeleni Telecentre in Muden

The Minister of Communications, General (Ret) Siphiwe Nyanda, will launch the Zibambeleni Telecentre in Muden in the Umvoti local municipality, KwaZulu-Natal tomorrow. The project is a joint initiative of the department, the Zibambeleni Development Trust, and the Universal Service and Access Agency of South Africa (USAASA).

The telecentre was established in 2003 based on a partnership between USAASA and the Zibambeleni Development Trust, an non-governmental organisation (NGO) that caters for a community of about 5 000 people in and around Muden.

The launch of the Zibambeleni Telecentre is in line with the department’s mission to roll-out information and communications technologies (ICT) infrastructure throughout South Africa to ensure that the country utilises ICTs to achieve its socio-economic goals.

The centre has 10 new computers, a printer and internet connectivity and would offer computer literacy training, through a partnership between USAASA and Microsoft South Africa’s Unlimited Potential programme. The community of Muden and surrounding areas would also have access to government services through the use of ICT tools provided at the centre.
