Minister Nkwinti and MEC Johnson undertakes a “walk-about” at the Umsinga Comprehensive Rural Development Programme (CRDP) site, KwaZulu-Natal

Rural Development and Land Reform Minister Gugile Nkwinti, together with the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Agriculture, Environmental Affairs and Rural Development Lydia Johnson, will embark on a “walkabout” at the Comprehensive Rural Development Programme (CRDP) site at Umsinga, KwaZulu-Natal, on Monday, 26 April 2010.

In line with the framework for implementing rural development strategy for the country, each province identifies a site for the piloting of the CRDP to ensure that the implementation of the national rural development strategy takes into account dynamics, challenges and specifics of each province, the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government identified Umsinga to be the provincial CRDP site.

The purpose of the CRDP “walk-about” by Minister Nkwinti and MEC Johnson is, amongst others, to assess the social and economic development challenges and opportunities identified for Umsinga; inspect progress on the projects that have emanated from the needs identified by the community and engage the community of Umsinga on the implementation of the CRDP in their area.

As part of the event, members of the media will have an opportunity to interact with national, provincial and local leadership; beneficiaries; members of the community as well as with senior managers from the departments regarding the implementation of the CRDP in Umsinga.
