Minister Nkoana-Mashabane to participate in World Economic Forum (WEF) on Africa

International Relations and Co-operation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane will, in support of President Jacob Zuma, participate in the 19th World Economic Forum (WEF) on Africa, scheduled to take place in Cape Town from 10 to 12 June 2009. Minister Nkoana–Mashabane will join leaders from a wide spectrum of sectors and eminent persons from Africa, international organisations and from across the world.

This year the WEF on Africa convenes under the theme “implications of the global economic crisis for Africa.” The preliminary 2009 programme is expected to focus on the opportunities across the continent despite the global economic transformation.

Through her participation in this forum Minister Nkoana-Mashabane hopes to showcase the policies that the new South African administration plans to implement in dealing with today’s global challenges. Accordingly Minister Nkoana-Mashabane will speak on the “new era of United States–Africa relations” and “new tools for a growing water challenge.” In addition the Minister will assume the role of a discussion leader as well as a panellist on both topics.

The WEF on Africa provides leaders committed and passionate about the future of the continent an opportunity to come together and address the strategic challenges that require multi-stakeholder solutions. As one of the important gathering of leaders with a stake in the region WEF meetings are always characterised by frank and informal exchanges.
