International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane will undertake a working visit to Sharm-el-Sheik, Egypt, to attend the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Coordinating Bureau (COB). The meeting is scheduled for 9 to 10 May 2012.
The aim of the ministerial meeting of the COB is to prepare for the (Sixteen) XVI NAM Summit Conference, to be held in Tehran, Iran, later in the year.The meeting will seek to revitalise and strengthen the NAM and to reinforce the position of the Movement on priority issues of concern to developing countries.
In this regard, it is expected that during the meeting Ministers will discuss, among others, issues that affect the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as global issues i.e. the review of International Law; promotion and preservation of Multilateralism; follow-up to the Millennium Declaration and the outcomes of Major United Nations (UN) Summits and Conferences; UN reform; Disarmament; as well as International Security.
